Lake Blalock is located in Northern Spartanburg County, is approximately 1105 acres and contains approximately 45 miles of shoreline. Along with increasing the water supply for Spartanburg, the lake offers excellent boating and fishing. Spartanburg Water operates the Lake Blalock Park, located on Sandy Ford Road with three covered Pavilions, public restrooms and boat launch facilities. Originally authorized in 1976 by the Commissioners of Spartanburg Water System, the Blalock dam was constructed in 1983 and was raised an additional 10 ft in 2004-2006 with appropriate improvements to the dam. Spartanburg Water owns to the 720 ft sea land contour lines above the water's edge and maintains a landscape buffer around Lake Blalock. The lake is located on the Pacolet River and permits boating, fishing and swimming with a maximum of 40 horsepower motors for Pontoon boats with 16 ft or longer and 30 horsepower motors for other boats, no skiing, jet skis or personal water craft are permitted. The lake is named in memory of long time Water Commissioner, the late H Taylor Blalock.
Lake Bowen is a 1534 acre water reservoir in North Spartanburg County, about 6 miles from the North Carolina state line. The Interstate 26 bridge across Lake Bowen lies between exit #5 & 10 and the lake lies generally parel to SC Highway 11. It is an excellent fishing lake with striped bass, smallmouth bass, channel catfish and spotted bass. Lake Bowen has 33 miles of shore line and the surface elevation is 815 ft above
mean sea level, Lake Bowen is located in the course of the South Pacolet River and serves as a public drinking water supply. It is owned by Spartanburg Water. Skiing, jet ski, personal watercraft and boating are permitted with an outboard horsepower limit of 115 horsepower. There are picnic pavilions, boat ramps and a playground at the Lake Warren's office on SC Highway 9. Lake Bowen was constructed in 1960 to secure an adequate water supply for the Spartanburg area and continues to serve its original purpose. The lake is a top Real Estate Market and most recent development is decidedly upscale.
Lake Adger is a 438 acre lake with approximately 14 1⁄2 miles of pristine shoreline, located near Tryon/Columbus, NC. The lake originally was originally constructed as a hydroelectric facility and continues to produce power at the present time. The lake bed is now owned by Polk County and the hydroelectric operation is managed by Norfolk Carolina Hydro. There is an 80 horsepower limit on Pontoon boats, a 60 horsepower restriction on any other watercraft. No skiing or jet skis are permitted on the lake. Lake Adger is fed by the Green River as well as several other tributaries. All of the land surrounding the lake is in private ownership. There is a public boat launch managed by the Lake Adger Property Owners Association, Inc. and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, located on Lake Adger Road, at the upper end of the lake.
